Maiden Media

The SPM media house has broke its maiden. Thank you so much to Floyd Hagen, owner of Sushi Hana, and Heidi Starrett, from the Missoula Broadcasting Company, for helping get 4Missoula get on the radio waves. Not only did Sushi Hana donate a skateboard to 4Missoula, but they also donated 25x :30 second radio spots, which was matched by the radio station, so now we're running 50x radio spots on u104.5...and it's working - we have already received a skateboard application!

This amazing act of kindness is so wonderful and creative, and I am so excited to see how radio will affect things. This project has already been fun, as I have always wanted to cut a radio spot and with Juanita's nice recorder and audio from an old skate session (to add a little skateboard click-clack in the background) we made a commercial and here it is!

Sweet Pine

Somehow it was put together that native american's sweet pine is also known as subalpine fir, similar to how in the United States the Canadian saskatoon goes by sarvisberry (or serviceberry to further confuse us all), thus, since learning about sweet pine, but not knowing anything about subalpine fir, I have been on a quest to learn and then sample this elusive mountain dweller.  Here is a picture of the pamphlet page from the forest service, where I, when grabbing a Christmas tree tag, asked the forest guys if they might know of a low-elevation grove of subalpine fir somewhere, to which they chuckled and replied no. Armed with this guide and the knowledge that subalpine fir are not found at low-elevation, I checked out all the trees while skiing at Snowbowl and surely there was many-a-tree that fit the description, however nothing matched the notched needle-tip part, thus I was still uncertain. Exploring the National Defense Authorization Act - Episode 7

Happy Friday, everyone! I hope the week has been productive and full of blessings. Last night I got to watch my daughter perform at Hellgate's basketball game and it just overwhelms me with emotion. I'm so proud of her and I'm not just saying this, but she's the best dancer on the team, her elegance is unmatched. In today's skim of the National Defense Authorization Act we cover Subtitle G--Military Family Readiness and Dependents' Education and Subtitle H--Diversity and Inclusion. I've noticed that many of the sections herein have been touched on in earlier parts of this Act, so it makes a person wonder why so many funnels towards the same end. Basically, there seems to be a great number of diversity studies and recommendations throughout, and it might be more concise to focus this stuff.
