Exploring the National Defense Authorization Act - Episode 6
As we plog (new word - combination of plough and slog) through the National Defense Authorization Act I am anxious to get this published so I can go ski Mount Jumbo. The weather is cold and since I'm No Wax Jack I should be able to get a bit of glide from the skis.
Today's perusal starts off with Special Victims where Sections 531-541 deal with sexual assault, sexual harassment, and stalking within the Armed Forces and the National Guard. President Biden set up an Independent Review Commission to deal with the subject and there is an extensive Trial Council Assistance Program to help train military legal representatives in this field of scope.
A couple interesting tidbits from the rest of the shallow-dive include:
- The 8 different "uniformed services" of America - apart from the obvious ones there is also the United States Space Force, United States Coast Guard, United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps.
- The Air Force Institute of Technology (graduate school for the Air Force) and specifically Hangar 18 - a special technology group designed to provide awesome stuff to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
- The United States Naval Community College - an online option for folks wanting to study Navy stuff without going to the academy.
- The Board of Visitors - West Point's connection to Congress.
- The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center - something in Monterey that helps teach our military about language.
- And SkillBridge - a program that helps military people with less than 180 days left to serve find a new job in the civilian world.
And with that I'm going to get some fresh air.
P.S. Mount Jumbo was closed so I dinked around up Sawmill Gulch in less-than-ideal conditions.
