11 Syllable Brick Layer
Mushrooms can sure make for an interesting night.
With adventure in store, we jumped on our bikes,
Out for the night with my friends Fiddy and Dom.
We might have took knife hits or was it a bong?
The sun went down and darkness fell on the town.
With moms in nightgowns, we weren't messing around.
At a vacant house with a light in the yard,
If we had to bounce the shrooms would make it hard.
As we began to trip, we laid on the ground.
Like fools on a ship not knowing where we're bound.
Light beams on the tree leaves began to move around.
Like a psychedelic dream tapestry wound.
Entranced in a natural kaleidoscope,
Light dancing in our eyes like whoa.
On the move again we rode through a golf course.
Like crazed banshees out of the barn door with horses,
Flying down the fairway in total darkness,
Galloping greens catching air out of bunkers,
The cloak of night was our protection until,
Fiddy hit a wet spot and took a big spill.
Not a homerun trot but a slide into second,
The most inconsequential crash I reckon.
With no harm inflicted we hit the streets again.
From the highlands towards the valley, we went.
Effortless and free no energy was spent.
Privacy found in a dim-lit gravel pit,
We circled up and began to hackey sack.
Teleported to another place in fact,
Out of this world no longer terrestrial,
Lunar landing imagination vestibule.
Not a smooth dune but instead craggily rocks,
We played and played on the surface of the moon.
Then suddenly aware of the rising sun,
We made a run to an earthly creek bottom.
Sleeping bags laid out our trip was almost done,
It was fun no doubt with one surprise to come.
My back was towards the stream when I heard it,
The most ferocious and terrifying sound.
Nearly petrified and scared to turn around,
I slowly rolled over to see what it was.
Could it be a lion here to kill my buzz?
It was then that I saw, in the morning light,
The most absolutely astonishing sight,
And I wondered if I was seeing this right.
Just a few feet from me, across the water,
Savagely entangled were two river otters.
Maybe it was a love-making ritual,
It certainly gave me a tremendous fright,
And a magical end to an amazing night.
