Introducing Ancestors
Got my DNA tested and it came back 100% honkey. I was curious if I was part native American or African, but it seems I'm half English, a quarter Scottish, and the rest northern European (Norwegian, German, Welsh, Swedish, Irish).
While nothing too interesting there, I am finding my family tree insightful. It's fun to learn great grandfathers' names (John Henry, Samuel Frances, Earl Clyde for example) and maiden names long-forgotten (O'Neal, Bryan, Brown, Olson, etc.). Generally speaking, my ancestors came from Europe and settled in Indiana.
Something kind of cool is that my great-great (2x) grandmother was born in Alder Gulch, making me a 5th generation Montanan. Her name was Anna Montana Miller, but went by Martena it seems. Her mother was Anna Margret Martina Martin, who came over from Denmark sometime between 1844 and 1865 (year of the birth of her daughter Anna Montana) and died in Billings in 1901.
So now if it's time to reconnect with my roots, here are some places (in this country) to go to:
- Glendive, MT
- Red Wing, MN
- Long Beach, CA
- Conrad, MT
- Indianapolis, IN
- Dodge City, KS
- Esdaile, WI
- Goodhue, MN
- Sacramento, CA
