Conceptionalization of the Green Screen

Image
It has been on my to-do list for quite some time and, finally, I have created a video with a green screen. While this green screen has some flaws (wrinkles creating different shades of green) the concept of it has awoken my slumbering creativity. Consider this one a sandbag - setting a low bar, proof of concept. Next one rolls out.

May 25 Photo Roll

Image
Here's a little photo roll to reinvigorate myself as I have blog ideas aplenty, swirling about in my head, that need to become real. Oh, and please excuse the music - I created it super quick and I'm not musical at all.

The Wheel of What's for Dinner

Image
Created a fun-little spreadsheet to help decide what to make for dinner and it's called... The Wheel of What's for Dinner  (this is also a test to see what happens when I share spreadsheet access with the world). And here's a video to explain things -

Mark's Ranker

Image
I took the liberty to create my own ranking system for the NFL with the logic that a win against one team is a "virtual" win against all the teams that that team has beat, and vice versa. The result is a matrix about 400 columns wide and 1800 rows deep and what I'm hoping is that it increases its "predictive power" each week. Here is what the league looks like after 5 weeks. And here's a little video to help explain things -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l26Kk4YUZZY

The New Library

Image
Reading a review of Jorge Luis Borges's "Library of Babel" I was reminded of my recent trip to the new Missoula Public Library, which was built directly next to the old Missoula Public Library. The construction of the new library, while in plain view, had an air of secrecy to it and it wasn't until its Grand Opening that the new library finally stepped-out from the shadow of the old one. Juanita and I have been visiting the hospital a lot lately with post-surgery appointments where we park under St. Pat's Broadway Building and ascend to the fifth floor from the basement in an elevator. It's a very public elevator entrance where a set of glass doors work to dissuade transients, who might be hunkered down, from going up. The elevator entrance at the library struck me much the same way - a fancy-looking glass enclosure with its fanciness working to dissuade smelly bums from entering. And I say smelly jokingly, because I had heard that a highly contested feature o

Pumpkin Sprout

Image
The entire day yesterday I was without my iPhone as it was busy making a timelapse video of a baby pumpkin sprouting. I always find it joyful to discover a new sprout, the miracle is slow yet compelling - calling me to capture it on film. As my garden expands, maybe with a little Artemisia Ludoviciana, I hope to refine the timelapse process and figure out a way to film at night.

Maiden Media

Image
The SPM media house has broke its maiden. Thank you so much to Floyd Hagen, owner of Sushi Hana, and Heidi Starrett, from the Missoula Broadcasting Company, for helping get 4Missoula get on the radio waves. Not only did Sushi Hana donate a skateboard to 4Missoula, but they also donated 25x :30 second radio spots, which was matched by the radio station, so now we're running 50x radio spots on u104.5...and it's working - we have already received a skateboard application! This amazing act of kindness is so wonderful and creative, and I am so excited to see how radio will affect things. This project has already been fun, as I have always wanted to cut a radio spot and with Juanita's nice recorder and audio from an old skate session (to add a little skateboard click-clack in the background) we made a commercial and here it is! Contact SPM for all your media needs haha.
